Kern killed in farm accident
On Tuesday, July 19, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Wadena County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a male party who stated another male party had been run over by a tractor. The caller stated they were located in Section 24 of Wing River Township.
Law enforcement and emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find Raphael Kern, 63, of Verndale, had been run over by a round baler.
It was reported that the two males had been working on the tractor that was pulling the baler as it had broken down the day before. When the tractor broke down, it was left in gear. While working on the tractor, it started running and moving; running over Raphael, who was between the tractor and baler.
Raphael was airlifted to Sanford in Fargo, ND, where he later was pronounced deceased.
Assisting on scene were the Verndale First Responders, Verndale Police Department, Tri-County Ambulance and North Memorial Air Care.
