Kneisls are the Farm Family of the Year
by Trinity Gruenberg
The Kneisl family of Hewitt was awarded the 2022 Todd County Farm Family of the Year in a ceremony held at the Todd County Fair on Sunday, July 18.
The Kneisl farm dates back to the early 1930s when August Kneisl purchased a 160 acre farm. His son Arnold purchased another 320 acres in the 1960s. The farm is now operated by Gary and Kathy Kneisl, along with their son Jason and his wife Kala.
The main operators of the farm are Gary and Jason. Gary is working to transition out and Jason is leading the daily operations.
Gary has been a Todd County Commissioner the past 16 years along with farming full-time. Kathy works at Hunkes Transfer in Wadena and enjoys gardening and picking raspberries with her grandchildren.
They have four adult children. Jason took over ownership of Arnold’s home in 2016. Another son Danny resides across the road, and their twin daughters Beth and Shelly live in Inver Grove Heights. . .
