Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

Maybe I am writing this editorial for you and maybe I am writing it just for myself. I am trying to make some sense and application of the recent U.S. presidential candidate debate that I watched on television this past Thursday night.

I just have to do something.

I’ve been a farmer for around 60 years. I was a teacher for 11 years and a veteran for two years. I don’t think I’ve ever missed voting in a national election. I’ve voted for Democrats and I’ve voted for Republicans. I feel I’ve always voted for the candidate most qualified for the job and especially when it comes to the president.

I’ve always been an avid news watcher. Now at 94, I feel I’ve noticed some huge changes that I don’t like.

I used to get the facts. Now between the politicians and the media I am inundated with misinformation and probably lies...

What am I supposed to do? It’s not the America and the political system that I long enjoyed and which I desire back.

I need to mention that we have to do something to reduce drug traffic at the border. The present situation has caused tragic and devastating results which now span our country from the southern border clear up to the northern border. It has been devastating. What other country has open borders?

When I was in high school I worked several years in the North Dakota harvest fields. We had lots of help from south of the border. They had green cards. They were good workers. They took their paycheck back with them. I thought it worked well.

In closing, I am only one vote but I wanted to hear one clear voice of the vision for America. I also want solid truths from the candidates as well as the media. I want leaders that I can respect. Is that too much to ask?

I believe our prayers for wise decisions and guidance will be heard.

Thank you,

Clarence Horsager
