Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:
This is in response to the “Letter to the Editor” two weeks ago from Sonja Vlach of Clarissa regarding the stop signs near your residence and wanting to remove them.
Although you detailed your opinion on removal in length, I think you made a stronger case for leaving them when you said, “In more than 20 years, I’m personally not aware of one single accident at Leslie Avenue West and Robert Street.”
In a world where everything can seem rush-rush, I think it’s okay to STOP for a second and observe our surroundings. We may just prevent an unnecessary accident by doing so.
Lastly, your call was received about the city crew plowing the street on overtime on a Saturday afternoon. That is what they are hired for, and I would argue that they have done a GREAT job keeping the streets clean since they were hired. Doing almost all of their maintenance in-house in the last couple of years is one of the reasons the council has voted to raise the levy by only 1% since 2023. Not bad considering inflation over the same period.
In closing, I would like to say I am very proud of the maintenance crew we have and the job they do for the city.
Respectfully,
Brent Line
Mayor
City of Clarissa
