Suzy Kirscht received a National Education Award from Terry Lynk, Wadena Coast to Coast. Kirscht was named a local winner in the Servistar Coast to Coast All-American Vocational Student Awards Program. As a local winner, Kirscht will receive a $100 U.S. Savings Bond. Kirscht now advances to the state competition.

Winners of the Bertha-Hewitt’s local spelling bee were: Michael Fitzlaff, Christie Zimmerman, and Maria Ervasti. Pictured with the winners was school superintendent, Larry Werder. Christie took first place at the local spelling bee and represented B-H at the Regional Spelling Bee in Pequot Lakes on March 17.

The Potratz Jack Sprat Food Store announced free coffee and cookies for Sunday, March 29 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to mark the grand opening of their new store. The Potratz Building, Bertha’s newest, adds considerably to the appearance of the business section of the village.

Minnesota’s vast aggregation of school districts, embracing nearly 7700 separate school systems, developed for the most part in the horse and buggy days when children could not travel far to school, may be revamped by the people in each county to meet modern conditions under a bill attracting much attention in the State Legislature.
