Kristy Finck ran her first marathon on June 21 of this year. She ran in Grandma’s Marathon, a well-known race in Duluth that is sponsored by Grandma’s (an eating establishment) and several other businesses in Duluth. Grandma’s Marathon is 26.2 miles long and Kristy ran it in four hours and 34 minutes. Kristy said the first 17 miles went flying by. There were a lot of people cheering on the runners. But Kristy developed a blood blister on one of her toes and it was rubbing and getting painful. By 23 miles, Kristy said she would visualize where she had run and think, “Only three miles left, you can do this.”

Pictured are Sharon Hackbarth, sister-in-law of Cliff and Valerie Filbert of Hewitt, along with husband Vaughn and their Labradors Jed and Molly. Sharon had wanted a cat and the Filbert’s had cats, so Sharon adopted one named Missy. But Missy didn’t want to cross the road. They would all soon find out why. She was sitting on the patio at the Filbert’s and Missy jumped on her lap. Sharon began to pet the cat when she felt something wet. Missy had given birth to two kittens named Mork and Mindy.
