Bertha-Hewitt Homecoming king and queen candidates are: Heidi Anderson, Melissa Anderson, Jenny Anderson, Candi Bowman, Mark Bertram, Rodney Brunko, Tim Balbach and Brent Captain. Bertha-Hewitt’s Homecoming coronation will be held on September 23 at 2:30 p.m.

The United States Department of Agriculture never told parents in these states that a four-ton batch of potentially lethal chicken nuggets was being recalled from school cafeterias, and that some kids had already eaten them. The hard plastic was found in September 1995 by children during lunch at the Bertha-Hewitt School. Superintendent Larry Werder explained that the cafeteria workers scrambled to collect the nuggets. They made a pile of plastic shards the children had pulled out of their food. The agriculture department supervised the recall of 8000 pounds of the nuggets from Minnesota, Kansas and Louisiana.

Twenty-nine Bertha residents journeyed to the University Hospital in Minneapolis last week where they gave blood to be used for transfusions for little Judith Kay Haarstick who is currently receiving treatments for a rare blood condition.

An announcement was made from the American Jersey Cattle Club officers in Columbus, Ohio that a registered Jersey cow owned by Mrs. Jos. Blashack, Bertha, is a Tested Dan having three offspring with official production records.
