25 Years Ago

September 24, 1997

The Bertha-Hewitt School Board has a new member starting this month. Lynn Hagen was appointed to the board and will fill the term until January 1, 2000. Hagen will be filling the board vacancy due to the death of long-time board member and chairman, Richard Decker. Sharon Howe is the new chairman and Douglas Ostlund is the acting clerk.

Martina and Rebecca Hendrickson of Hewitt vacationed in Idar-Oberstein, Germany from August 11-26. Becky is the daughter of Jacklyn and Cliff Hendrickson and is a junior at Bertha-Hewitt. Tina is the wife of Rod, and the mother of Cathy, Vanessa and Chris (Bubba) Hendrickson. Tina is one of ten children of Christian and Hilde Sickert of Germany.


75 Years Ago

September 25, 1947

A group of local sportsmen was busy this week assisting in the seining of fingerling pike from the rearing pond located on the George McAllister farm for planting in lakes Irene and Miltona. The rearing pond is one of the projects sponsored by the local Sportsman’s Club. It is estimated about 50,000 fish were taken from the rearing pond.

Lewis; treasurer, Mrs. W.K. Bottemiller; chaplain, Mrs. George E. Hartz; historian, Mrs. Ray Foster; sergeant at arms, Mrs. D.E. Beckman; and executive board members, Mrs. Elmer Leibold and Mrs. Wm. Payne.
