October 1, 1997
The 1997 Bertha-Hewitt Homecoming Queen Melissa Anderson, daughter of Bob Anderson of Carlos and Cindy Johnson of Browerville, and King Tim Balbach, son of Jim and Nettie Balbach, were crowned during the ceremony on Tuesday, September 23. During homecoming week the volleyball team defeated the Pequot Lakes team and the football team took on the Tigers but were defeated 15-6.

The residents of the Peaceful Valley Care Home in Hewitt had a special treat on Sunday, September 28. On that day, the Aeling children, Madison, Dakota and Autumn, came and spent a few hours with three elderly residents. Madison and Autumn danced for the elders and all three children sang “Jesus Loves Me”. Autumn also enjoyed being read to and just spending a little time individually with each elder.

October 2, 1947
The Bertha Band Mother Club met and heard the report of their successful activities. Their initial activity was to obtain funds for uniforms for the high school band. They will now turn their attention to other band needs.

Reverend Norbert Hinnenkamp, for the past six years the pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic parish, has been transferred to Mora. Reverend Frederick Kampsen of Elizabeth will be the new pastor of the Bertha parish.
