People who know Edna Lovelace from Hewitt have probably enjoyed many of the talents she has. But they probably didn’t get the opportunity to enjoy her writing talent until around 1960. Edna lived in Hewitt for the past three years. Previously, she and her husband, who passed away four years ago, lived on a farm a few miles from Hewitt. This summer Edna spent a lot of time on the book of poetry “Down to Earth” which includes around 100 of her poems.

Wayne Sagehorn of Bertha was one of the first chosen by Ted Peterson of the Minneapolis Tribune to be on the mythical All-State six-man football team. Peterson made a good choice in picking Sagehorn who is one of the most clever and versatile players ever developed in Bertha. Karl Bottemiller, another fine Bertha player, was given an honorable mention as a linesman. Bob Schwantz, whose power and skill helped win many a game, was honorable mention as a back. Undefeated, Bertha’s challenge to play any team in the state was never accepted by any other team.
