January 21, 1997
Jessica Rach, daughter of Brad and Connie Rach of Bertha, learned much about the Russian language this past fall. From August until December 19, the first semester of her senior year in college, Jessica attended the Herzen Language Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia through an exchange program from the Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. She will graduate in May of 1998. Jessica went to Russia and attended the institute with 27 other American students studying the Russian language.

The Bertha-Hewitt Sno Daze celebration will take place the week of January 26-30. Sno Daze coronation will take place on Tuesday, January 27 at 2:30 p.m. Candidates are: Matt Ervasti, Kelly Dague, Luke Teigland, Nicole Bowman, Heidi Anderson, Brent Captain, Mark Bertram and Jenny Anderson.

January 22, 1948
The Concordia College Concert Band, with two Bertha graduates, Gerald Heuer and Phyllis Umland, will make a two-week tour of western North Dakota. The 60 piece band is under the director of Professor J.A. Holvik.

A meeting was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Clarissa. Representatives of the townships and villages gathered to form an organization of countywide appeal for the nationwide Christian Overseas Relief Program. The county has undertaken part in this relief program to secure enough contributions to make it possible to ship a carload of dry milk from Todd County.
