February 25, 1998

Bertha-Hewitt-Verndale Raiders wrestlers going on to state competition include: Reggie Rach, 130; Marshal Rach, 135; Tim Balbach,140; Jacob Elgin, 160; Ben Rudrud, 119; Joe Richter, 125; and Joe Kern, 171.

The Bertha-Hewitt girls basketball team traveled to Osakis on Thursday night to complete the regular season. The Bears were in search for their tenth win of the season and momentum for tournament play. However, the Bears were facing a big challenge as they faced an Osakis team who is rated as one of the top 1A teams in the state. The Bears end the regular season 9-12. The final score was B-H 50-Osakis 67.


75 Years Ago

February 26, 1948

The Bertha Cooperative Crematory Association held one of its most successful annual meetings. Secretary H.E. Anderson reported the creamery had manufactured 933.867 pounds of butter during the past year and that payments to its patrons totaled $621,303.31. The election of officers found Emil Bluhm, Henry Leyh and Ben Waldon being returned to office.

The Hewitt High School faculty and pupils were pleased to receive a check for $25 from C.V. Bond. He specified the money be used to help support basketball in any way that Superintendent John Provinzino sees fit. The check shows Mr. Bond’s continued support and interest in the winter sports for the boys.
