25 Years Ago

April 15, 1998

Graduates of Bertha-Hewitt High School are eligible to apply for the Marvin Braaten Memorial Scholarship. The award is $500. To be eligible for this scholarship applicants must have completed two years of a business major at an accredited college/university. The scholarship award would be applied toward junior and/or senior year expenses.

Don Booen served coffee at the Bertha Commercial Club's annual pancake feed on April 9. Nearly 400 people attended the free feed.


50 Years Ago

April 15, 1973

The Bertha Band Mothers are very pleased that their obligation was completed for the last payment of the new band uniforms. However, the upkeep and welfare of the band will keep them busy in the future. A party for the band will be held in May.

A large crowd attended the Monday evening meeting of the Woman’s Club. A men’s quartet consisting of Leonard Bluhm, Rev. Walter Ratzlaff, J.F. Cary and E.W. Ahrendt accompanied by Mrs. Bluhm sang “Little Cotton Dolly,” and “Just a Little Talk With Jesus.” The business meeting included discussion and plans for Girl Scouts and the building of a fireplace and picnic tables in the park.
