The Bertha community held a bake sale and luncheon to raise funds to purchase additional outdoor furniture for the Bertha Manor and Horizon Manor. Homecrest donated two tables and four chairs. Pictured are Bea Brasel, Dee Hoemberg, Susan Harms, Lois Schaefer and Eva Freyholtz.

Miss Andrea Ashbaugh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Ashbaugh of Hewitt, was selected to represent the Bertha-Hewitt High School and the Bertha American Legion Auxiliary at the 52nd annual session of Minnesota Girls State that is being held at the Bethel College June 14-20. Miss Tabitha Hennagir, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Hennagir of Bertha, was selected as an alternate. Mr. Derek Stach, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stach of Bertha, represents the school and the Bertha American Legion, William Larson Post at the 50th annual Boys State session to be held at St. Olaf College University Campus at Northfield June 14-20.

The second meeting of the newly organized Cub Scout troop will be at the school on April 27. A film is to be shown to parents on Cub Scout work. Twelve boys receive their registrations: Wallace Harms, Larry Karrstick, Douglas Johnson, Ramon Burnett, Vernon Harms, Charles Heuer, LaVern Martin, Darren White, Charles McIntire, Jerome Potratz, Richard Schults and Paul Eiswald.

Bertha basketball fans will be treated to an unusual type of game on Monday evening. The William Larson Post of Bertha will sponsor “Donkey Basketball.” Spectators will see an exhibition that has never been witnessed on the local floor.
