The May school board meeting was held on Tuesday, May 19. Prior to calling the meeting to order, the board presented Gen Aldrich with a plaque thanking her for 26 years of service to the Bertha-Hewitt School. The board also presented a plaque to the family of Richard Decker for his 20 years of dedicated service on the Bertha-Hewitt School Board.

Bertha-Hewitt recognized many outstanding seniors last Monday evening at their awards ceremony. Outstanding fine arts: Male-Mitch Ganske, Female-Jessi Samuelson. Outstanding Vocational Student: Jessi Samuelson. AAA Recipients: Male-Matt Ervasti; Female-Heidi Anderson. Marine Corp award: Male-Bill Ward: Female-Jeana Schaefer. Outstanding Senior Athlete: Male-Bill Ward; Female-Jeana Schaefer.

Before a capacity audience Dr. C.N. Pace, president of Hamline University, addressed the graduating seniors of Bertha High School with the subject, “Education is Life.” Karl Bottemiller, salutatorian, gave the student addresses. The American Legion Citizenship Awards were received by William Johnston and Grady Johnson, alternates being Robert Mullin and Dorothy Milbrath.

Arnold Kujath, superintendent of schools, Garden City, Minnesota, has been selected as superintendent of Bertha Schools, filling the vacancy created by the resignation of L.W. Anderson.
