Geny Hartman was born in the Philippines. She moved to the U.S. in 1970 when she married a retired U.S. serviceman. She lives east of Bertha and intends to bring something new and different to Bertha’s Dairyland Days. Hartman has single-handedly put together a multicultural variety show for the celebration. Many local talents will perform at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Lions Building.

A pick-up truck parked by the post office Wednesday was left in neutral. The pick-up rolled down the hill, jumped the curb next to Don’s Auto Service and ran into the building. No one was in the truck and no one was injured.

July 8, 1948
Among 11 Jersey breeders in the state whose herds have been classified by type by the American Jersey Cattle Club of Columbia, Ohio, two were from Bertha. The herds of Arvin Lippert and Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Blashack have been honored by selection by the national organization.

The Board of Education of Hewitt, in a special meeting, conceded to the wishes of a majority of the district’s residents and rescinded a previous vote to close the high school. The high school will continue to operate for at least another year.
