Bertha-Hewitt welcomed three new teachers this year. Pat Ward will be a special education teacher for both the elementary and high school. Christine Staples will teach business education. Jane Swanson will teach science. There are 541 students enrolled for the 1998-99 school year, with 14 new students enrolled for the new year.

Ardis McFarlane, Physician Assistant, will be providing medical care at the Bertha Medical Clinic on Thursday beginning in the middle of September. McFarlane grew up in the Bertha-Hewitt area and is a former laboratory director at Tri-County Hospital.

May 6, 1948
Members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Hewitt enjoyed a picnic in the Hewitt Park on Sunday and also observed the sixth birthday anniversary of Mary Elda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jo Russell. Mary Elda received a number of gifts but the outstanding feature of the day was the presentation of a folding wheelchair to the little miss, who has never walked.

Reverend Walter Ratzlaff, Mary Lou Solid, Phyllis Bluhm and Glen Klebs, delegates from the local Church of God, attended the international Young People’s Convention.
