25 Years Ago

November 18, 1998

Tanya Kramer, Katrinah Rach and Sara Rach took first, second and third place respectively for their Voice of Democracy speeches. The students wrote their speeches and delivered them in Wadena on Veterans Day. Tanya’s speech will continue on in the competition.

Volleyball awards: Katherine Ervasti was voted MVP, Ms. Defense and All Conference. Crystal Tinsal was voted Ms. Offense and All Conference. Tabitha Hennagir was voted Ms. Hustle, Honorable Mmention for All Conference. Susie Fosness and Tracy Schiltz were voted most improved.


50 Years Ago

November 18, 1948

The Bertha Commercial Club held its November meeting at the Congregational Church parlors and heard Ray Wickum of the Minnesota Power and Light Company tell of the acute electric power shortage and the ways in which it is being alleviated. He explained that the dry spell during September was the direct cause of the current shortage and that it would be essential to pursue the voluntary rationing program until the spring thaw.

An open house was held at the Hewitt School on Friday evening as a “get acquainted” evening for faculty and parents. The evening was enjoyed by all. It was decided to organize a PTA. The following officers were elected: President Mrs. Renold Aldrich, Vice President Mrs. Maurice Estermann, Secretary Miss Lucille Manus and Treasurer Lawrence Doty.
