25 Years Ago

January 13, 1999

The Bertha-Hewitt Drama Department will present a preview of its contest one act, Tennessee William’s The Glass Menagerie on Saturday, January 16, at 8 p.m. The cast and crew, under the direction of Tim Hjelmeland, includes Calab Heiderich, Amber Steininger, Andrea Ashbaugh, David Adams, Beth Blashack and Becky Hendrickson.

A sizable group gathered at the Senior Citizens Center to watch as Hewitt City Clerk Valerie Filbert swore in Hewitt’s newly elected officials at the city council meeting on Tuesday, January 5. Steve Peterson took the oath of mayor, Juanita Mitchell and Jim Walker were sworn in as city council members and Harold Tritsch was appointed by the council to fill the empty council seat and then he was sworn in.


50 Years Ago

January 13, 1949

Friday begins the annual March of Dimes drive, designed to assist such persons that cannot afford the usually heavy expense of treatment of polio, to receive the medical care they need. I.F. Lano of Long Prairie is county chairman. Local chairmen are Mrs. Lucy Berczyk, Clarissa; Olgar Weibye, Eagle Bend; N. Elmie Lewis, Bertha; and Superintendent Brown, Hewitt.

The regular meeting of the Bertha Commercial Club will be held in the Congregational Church parlors on Tuesday evening. There will be a number of important matters to discuss. All members are urged to be in attendance.
