In 1989, Bertha purchased a new ambulance for $34,000. “When we got this ambulance,” EMT Mark Brown remembered, “We thought what are we going to do with all this room?” Since that time, the state began requiring ambulances to carry more life saving equipment such as a heart defibrillator. The ambulance service’s goal has been to replace and update ambulances every 10 years. They hope to get one for $55,000-$65,000.
