Where does our local talent strut its stuff? Where do people go to hear the local talent sing? Where do they go to unwind after work, play pool with their buddies and dance with their sweethearts? They do it in Hewitt. Hewitt Bar and Grill is under new management and has a new owner. Norma Koep, Ken Hendershot and Jodie and Tony Missling all worked together to reopen the Hewitt Bar and Grill on April 15. Technically, Tony is the official owner.

The Boy Scouts of America Troop 59 held a Court of Honor for new Eagle Scout Michael Stokes on Saturday, May 15 at St. Joseph’s Church in Bertha. He is pictured with his family: father and scoutmaster Ron, mother Mary and sister Heidi.

Col. E.B. Miller, one of the nation’s most famous soldiers, will be the speaker at Bertha’s Memorial Day Services, it was announced by the local post of the American Legion and Auxiliary. Bertha is indeed very fortunate to secure a speaker of such fame. Col. Miller is a veteran of World War I and II. He is one of the heroes of Bataan and spent many months in a Japanese prion camp.

A turnout of voters, which threatened to break all existing records, marked the vote for two places on the Board of Education. Herman Sundquist received 248 votes and Otto Marten received 195 votes to fill the two positions on the board.
