It is finally here! The Hewitt Centennial Celebration is this weekend. The three-day party promises plenty to eat, plenty to do and see, including dances, races and rides. Saturday’s activities begin with the culmination of many hours of preparation and organizing over the last several months. The Hewitt Centennial parade will begin at 11 a.m. From 11-4 p.m. D&S Denny will provide free pony rides downtown.

It may seem to many that Della Tritsch, better known as Del, has lived in Hewitt all her life. After all, she will be riding in the Hewitt Centennial parade as Hewitt’s oldest living citizen. Del is looking forward to her 94th birthday in September.
50 Years Ago
July 21, 1949
On Sunday, July 31, the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hewitt will observe its 50th anniversary with services continuing through most of the day. In the winter of 1899, on the 28th day of December, a group of eight Missouri Synod Lutherans and their families at Hewitt joined themselves together under the leadership of the late Reverend F.C. Ahrens and formed the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran congregation.

The folks who failed to take in the baseball game Sunday afternoon at the local diamond missed the ball game of the year as Bertha got by a tough one, thanks to slugging Ramie Lind’s two home runs. Score: Bertha 11-Clarissa 10.
