The council and those in attendance discussed Hewitt’s problem with vandalism. Schwantes has replaced teeter totter boards in the park more than once this summer. Even though he used sturdy, white oak planks, one of the boards is broken again. Schwantes said the boards break so frequently because kids are abusing them. The broken teeter totter will be taken down for the rest of the summer.

Effective January 1, 2000, Schwantes will no longer serve as Hewitt’s police officer. He will continue his water and sewer duties. He said the continuing education required in three areas of his job will be increasing in the future. He stated, “I just don’t feel I can do it and do a good job at all of my responsibilities.”
