25 Years Ago

September 29, 1999

Bertha-Hewitt Senior Sarah Walker escorted by Senior Curt Bogatzki was crowned homecoming queen at the coronation ceremony held last Tuesday afternoon. Sarah is the daughter of Jim and Kathy Walker of Hewitt. Curt is the son of Ervin and Kathy Bogatzki of Bertha.

A rainy, wet summer usually takes it toll on the amount of pheasants hatched in the wild. But the hens released by the Wing River Chapter of Ringnecks Forevermore are a determined batch. If their first nest flooded out, they incubated another nest full of eggs. According to Gary Westergren, president of the chapter, their efforts are being seen wherever the pheasants have been released.

50 Years Ago

September 29, 1949

The Bertha American Legion Auxiliary will meet on Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. George Hartz. Hostesses will be Mrs. Fred Dehnel, Mrs. Annie Harlow, Mrs. Gerorge Hartz and Mrs. William Englemann.

Ten boys attended the Trip 59 meeting on Monday evening. They were divided into two patrols. The Beavers were Stan McIntire, patrol leader, Glen Zaske, Douglas Johnson, Clare Aune and Albin Klebs. The Wolves were Allen “Corky” Cornell, patrol leader, Gerald Zaske, Douglas Wieland, Raymond Burnett and Charles McIntire.
