October 27, 1999

Bertha-Hewitt School Board candidates are: Jeanette (Nettie) Balbach, Lynn Hagen Douglas Ostlund Jr., Craig Dahms, Mary Ward, Judy Fosness and Alex Weego.

The Bears wrapped up the regular season last Wednesday night when they beat the New York Mills Eagles 26-6. They were 6-0 in the conference and 7-1 overall. The only loss of the year was the first game against Osakis when the Bears were missing a couple of key defensive players. The number one ranked Bears will play host to the winner of number four Sebeka and number five Wabaun on Saturday, October 30.

50 Years Ago

October 27, 1949

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will join with eight other churches in this vicinity, sponsoring radio broadcasts of worship services on Sunday mornings over KWAD of Wadena.

About 116 persons had small pox vaccinations and 121 had diphtheria tetanus shots during the annual immunization drive held at the school on Monday. Fifty-two of these were Bertha School children. A large number of children from the Hewitt School and from other rural schools took advantage of the opportunity.
