25 Years Ago

November 3, 1999

The number one ranked Bertha-Hewitt Bears had a bye the first round and played their first post-season game last Saturday night. They defeated the #5 ranked Waubun Bombers 53-0 and will advance to the Section Championship.

The eighth grade totally dominated the Trojans on the field of play. Sebeka didn’t get a first down until late in the game. The defense was led by Eddie Dolezal, Kyle Zirbes, James Davis, Dan Kimber, and Jason Sieling, who all had a number of solo and crushing tackles on the Trojans.

50 Years Ago

November 3, 1949

There will be an organizational meeting at the Hewitt School on Wednesday evening, November 9, for the purpose of determining if there is sufficient interest to warrant establishing an Army Reserve Unit in Hewitt. Men who are interested in remaining active and who would like to be brought up to take on the Army Reserve program will find the meeting of interest.

The anniversary of 18 years in the grocery business in Bertha is being observed this week by the Sunshine Grocery, owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Cornell. The store’s slogan is, “Where they greet you with a smile.” The store was purchased from Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Johnston on November 21, 1931. Mr. Cornell recalls his first day sales were $6.75.
