The cold weather on Sunday night didn’t stop the gathering of over 65 singers for the sing along and tree lighting ceremony held at the Bertha Park on November 28. After the ceremony, representatives of the churches in town served the celebrants hot apple cider, coffee, cookies and other treats.

The Bertha-Hewitt Bears ended their season at the Metrodome last Saturday night with a loss to the defending state champions, the Cook County Vikings. The Bears final record was 11-2.

December 1, 1949
Bertha residents will go to the polls Tuesday in the annual village election. George Quanbeck, filed by petition, was the only candidate to succeed Leonard Bluhm as mayor. Ted Hukriede as a councilman and Norman Crooks as constable are unapposed. The only contest will be for Justice of the Peace between E.M. Rosenberg and J.F. Anderson.

An announcement has been made by Elmer Sherman that his place of business to be known as Elmer’s Produce will be open this week. The business is located in the old Harris building. He will take in eggs and poultry as well as handling the sale of flour, oil, meal, sugar, salt and seeds. The Sherman’s lived in Germania Township but have purchased the Ben Walden home in Bertha.
