Members of the Bertha Town Board presented retiring Clerk Rodney Westergren with a Community Service Award. The plaque was given to Westergren in appreciation of his 34 years of service as the township’s clerk. Bertha Town Board Supervisor Wayne Voge was appointed to fill the position of clerk until the March 14 election. David Kohlhase Jr. was then appointed to fill Voge’s position as supervisor.

With the season coming fast to a close the BHV Raiders have had another busy week of wrestling action. On Thursday, the Raiders defeated Parkers Prairie 55-11 and on Saturday defended their Park Region Conference individual tournament championship.

For “meritorious achievement in modern agriculture and community service,” Edward C. Wegener, well known farmer of this community, received statewide recognition. Ed was presented the Seldon-Watts Seed Company award for agricultural achievement at a recognition dinner in St. Paul. The award is presented annually to a Minnesota farmer.

Pupils in District #56, Hewitt, and their teacher, Mrs. Ray Foster, recently received a letter from Germany thanking them for a box received at Christmas. Through the Todd County Junior Red Cross, schools have been packing and sending boxes to foreign countries for a number of years, but this was the first from District #56.
