The rural economy forces long time agriculture business to close its doors. The owner, Bob Larson, took over the Larson Farm Service from his father, Oliver Larson in 1992 and then merged with Verndale Ag Incorporated in January of 1998. He highlighted several reasons for the upcoming closing of the Bertha-Verndale Ag Service—with the low grain and dairy prices being big factors. The last day of service will be March 31.

On March 1, the First National Bank of Bertha-Verndale officially became Star Bank, National Association. The change came about when the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency approved the merger of the Bertha Bank and the West Central Bank.

March 30, 1950
Two worthless checks and about a dollar’s worth of pennies was the total loot of a burglar who broke into Johnson’s Garage on Monday night. The loot was later found, thrown away near Bottemiller’s Service Station.

Dale Franklin earned a superior rating and Charles Bottemiller and Clinton Hof earned excellent ratings at the Regional High School Speech Festival at Fergus Falls. Dale participated in memorized humorous, and Charles and Clinton in extemporaneous speaking. Mrs. Arnold Kujath coached the speech students.
