News from Bertha's and Hewitt's Pasts

25 Years Ago

March 6, 1996

On Saturday, March 2, the Bertha Fire Department responded to a call at the Bill Ward home at approximately 10:30 p.m. The Wards had been gone and when they returned home the house was filled with smoke. The cause was apparently from a wood heating unit. There was a small area that had burned and excessive smoke damage.

The B-H Odyssey of the Mind teams were in the regional competition on February 24 in Sartell. The Great Impressions team, consisting of Aaron Miller, Lisa Trosen, Emma Davenport, Trent Fore, Daisy Packard, Ruth Neil, and Brandon Kuyava, placed third in Division 1.


75 Years Ago

March 7, 1946

Mrs. Eunice Mitton, chairman of the Red Cross Fund Drive in Bertha, announced the drive will be conducted starting March 10 and ends March 15. The quota set is about half of that sought in previous years, about $425.

Twenty servicemen of Todd County received their discharges. From the Bertha area were: Abraham I. Anderson, Donald W. Robben, and Donoven D. Bluhm.
