The Bertha Lions Club had their license approved as of June 1 to sell charitable gambling pull tabs at the Bertha Municipal Liquor Store. According to Council Member and Lion’s Member Gary Kleen, “We wanted to be set up by Bertha Dairyland Days.” He also said they plan to start out selling on Friday and Saturday nights.

In week two the Mariners defeated the Angels 20-19 in a well-played contest while the Indians exploded for 14 runs in the sixth inning to win an otherwise close ball game by a score of 28-12. Trent Anderson paced the Indians with eight base hits while teammate Michael Fitzlaff had seven, including three home runs.

At a recent meeting of the village council, J.H. Mullin was appointed mayor of the village to fill out the unexpired term of Holger Ekjer, whose resignation was accepted at the May meeting.

Experiencing its second severe hailstorm within a week, this community suffered further damage when a heavy hailstorm hit the Woodside area. The hardest-hit were the Watkins, Goodale, Burke, Chas, Schwantz and Sibert farms.
