It looked like an insurmountable task. There were piles of rubbish and walls which were void of plaster. Wires hung from the ceiling, and the ceiling had started to come down in places due to the water damage. There was no electricity, water or working plumbing. The cost to fix the old Tappe’s Antiques building has been estimated in the neighborhood of $78,000. Not really anyone’s idea of an ideal youth center, is it? The youth and adults are working to rehab the building. Some of the people making it possible are Alice Schweniger, Andy Walker, Jim Walker, Lori Ostrowski, Joleen Hornbrook, Karen Weego, Jeremy Mohlenkamp and youth president Josh Mohlenkamp.

The Bertha-Hewitt Pee Wees ended their season hosting Long Prairie in a “quadruple” header. Both towns split their teams into two teams and played doubleheaders on adjacent diamonds. Coach Blom’s team won their first game 12-1 and were unable to clinch the second game due to time constraints. Coach Riewer’s team lost their first game 12-5 and rallied to put the go-ahead run at the plate in game two, but fell short 12-10. Trent Anderson, Andy Kirscht, Shawn Kimber and Luke Fosness each had hits from Blom’s team.
