News from Bertha's and Hewitt's Pasts

“We want to show the kids that adults can have fun without alcohol and drugs,” said Jean Shaw. With that in mind, several adults and parents in Bertha have been making plans for an all-night chemical-free party for adults. The seniors at the Bertha-Hewitt School have been having grad bashes for a few years and a couple of years ago someone said, “That looks like fun. I wish we could do that, too.” This adult party will feature musical guests Billy D and the Crystals. The theme of the party will be 50s and 60s. The party will be held Saturday, October 4, from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m., at the Hewitt Community Center.

The building located next to the post office in Hewitt was brought up at the council meeting as a possibility for a new city hall. The building is in poor repair and Councilman Cliff Filbert said he had seen the upstairs and if the downstairs is as bad it will be a major project. The new building could house the clerk’s office as well as city maintenance records and supplies. The city council meetings could be held there as well as other city-related meetings.
