25 Years Ago

September 25, 1996

The Bertha Commercial Club began making plans for its Centennial Celebration which will take place in 1997. Many ideas for the celebration were presented by Glenn Johnson and Don Booen. Some of the special events in the works are a style show, a talent show and a beard-growing contest.

B-H Homecoming Queen Candidates and their escorts are Kris Cain and John Becker, Suzy Kirscht and Chad Smith, Carrie Ward and Matt Tyrell, and Erica Rach and John Klimek. The coronation ceremony is Tuesday, September 24 at 2:30 p.m.


75 Years Ago

September 26, 1946

An estimated two thousand people, the largest crowd ever to gather under one roof in the history of the village, assembled at the Bertha High School last Sunday to pay tribute to Dr. W.W. Will on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of his practice in this community. The program had been planned as an open-air affair but was forced indoors by the cold, rainy weather. Thousands of people stormed the doors of the high school, packing the auditorium, the corridors, every classroom and the furnace room. Many hundreds were unable to gain admission to the building. An estimated three thousand visitors were in Bertha for the occasion.

Football, Bertha versus Eagle Bend at the Bertha High School Athletic Field, Friday, September 27, at 2:30 p.m. This is the first game to be played by the locals at the Park Region Conference. Admission, adults 35 cents, and children, 20 cents, tax included.
