The Bertha High School football team was given recognition by sportswriters of the metropolitan press when Ted Peterson, sports columnist, of the Minneapolis Tribune devoted most of his Tuesday morning’s column covering the local squad. The column opened, “Lee Henningsgaard, new athletic coach at Bertha, couldn’t have asked for a better debut at that school. His powerful six-man team swept to an undefeated season while rolling up 300 points to the opponents 71.” Star performer on the team was Captain Vaughn Hokanson, an end who stands at six-foot-three and a half inches and weighs 185 pounds. Others receiving special mention were Wayne Sagehorn, Donovan Johnston, Karl Bottemiller, Bob Schwantz, Bob Franklin, Billy Bottemiller, Donald Bauer and Dave Sparks.
