Mattson turns her love for the outdoors into a taxidermy business

For Hanna Mattson, preserving the memories of the hunt or the perfect catch is more than just a job—it’s a passion.
Originally from Villard, Mattson moved to Miltona four years ago with her husband and soon found a way to blend her artistic flair with her love of the outdoors through taxidermy.
“It was my dad who got me into fishing,” said Mattson. “I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember. Now I also really enjoy bass fishing with my husband.”
Her journey into taxidermy began with her interest in hunting whitetail deer, which she picked up after meeting her husband. As she became more immersed in outdoor activities, taxidermy seemed like the perfect way to combine her love for nature and art. Earlier this year (2024), she attended the Central Minnesota School of Taxidermy in Rice, where she honed her skills in mounting whitetail deer, birds, fish, and small mammals.
“I am very picky, and I take my time,” said Mattson. “I am probably my own hardest critic,” she added with a smile....
