Memories Gone By



“You want to know anything about Browerville? Ask Larry. If you can’t catch up with him, then ask his brother, Dick.” Larry and Dick are the Kahlert brothers. On the original “Main Street” corner of Browerville, there have been Kahlerts doing business for well over 120 years. Dick and Larry’s dad, John, had a mercantile business here in the early days of this century. Like most Browerville residents back in those days, he did a wide variety of things and Dick and Larry learned from him that “the only way to keep working was not to stop.”

Todd County has been added to the list of counties that will receive snow disaster relief funds. This federal and state money will help recoup the county’s snow removal costs. Sheriff Dave Kircher told commissioners at their February 18 meeting that the state will begin working with city, township, and county officials. He said the state is using dates of January 3 through February 3 for their calculations.


75 Years Ago

March 1, 1947

The annual meeting of the Browerville Shipping Association will be held at St. Peter’s Hall at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The 1945 report of the Browerville Shipping Association disclosed that 61 carloads of stock left the local stockyards, which brought a cash return to the owners of $119,731.75.

In cooperation with the VFW Post, a new organization in this community boasting a membership of nearly 100 returned veterans, and the local American Legion Post, met Wednesday night of last week for the purpose of further discussing and promoting a project that has for its objective up to the minute club rooms for all servicemen and their friends of the community. According to promoters, the new building, should it materialize, be modern, well located, efficiently managed and a credit to the village and a source of pleasure to the servicemen of this community to whom it will be dedicated.
