25 Years Ago

July 10, 1997

A delegation of Browerville students competed at the state Special Olympics on June 19-22 at the University of Minnesota and they all reportedly came home with medals. The Browerville group was also honored to be asked to help carry the Olympic torch. They made the last hand off and Brian Bentz was asked to light the torch to begin the Olympic games. A decision not to proceed with an environmental assessment worksheet on the effects of a proposed 18 single-family lot development on Little Sauk Lake was made by Todd County Commissioners. Local citizens had petitioned the Minnesota Environmental Quality Board to do the EAW due to their concerns about the fragile lake area.


75 Years Ago

July 10, 1947

In spite of threatening damp weather, a large crowd was in attendance at the Fourth of July celebration which was held at Horseshoe Lake all day and evening last Friday.

Tom Laidlaw, a former local boy, now pitching ball for the Fargo-Moorhead Twins of the Northern League, has been chosen to be a member of the All-Stars Team. The All-Stars will meet the Aberdeen, SD, team next Monday in the annual mid-season classic.
