25 Years Ago

September 4, 1997

The Zion Lutheran Church is sponsoring its first annual Festival of Faith on Sunday, September 7. The festivities will begin at 8:45 a.m. with the opening of the 1997-98 Sunday School program. At 10 a.m. a Festival Worship Service will include special music and the Reverend Nancy Larson as guest preacher. There will be live entertainment by a men’s gospel group from Cormorant Village. A pork and corn feast will be served on the church lawn at noon.

The Tigers opened the 1997 football season with a big 57-7 victory over the Upsala Cardinals last Thursday afternoon in Upsala. Mitch Becker intercepted an Upsala pass in the first quarter and took it 19 yards for a touchdown to start the scoring for the Tigers. On the Tigers' next possession, Troy Benning grabbed a pass from D.J. Hoelscher and dashed 76 yards to make the first quarter score 16-0.

75 Years Ago

September 4, 1947

About 20 Todd County 4-H club members attended the Minnesota State Fair last week where they competed for state awards. Among those from the Browerville community winning awards was Bruce Spychalla, Eager Beavers, clothing demonstration.

Two deaths and 13 serious injuries due to falls from motor vehicles in motion have been reported to the Minnesota Highway Department within the past six weeks. Four of the victims were adults, and 11 were children. In two cases, children riding on top of a truckload fell off. In all the other cases, doors were opened either by children, by sudden stops, or because doors had not been properly closed.
