The potato harvest began Monday at Oberg Farms in Browerville. Owner Mark Oberg said he expects it will take 20 working days to pick 750 acres. “This is an average year and I expect to average 380/cwt per acre,” he said. The russet/burbank crop will be stored until they are shipped to Park Rapids French Fry Factory. They process them and supply McDonald’s, Hardees and Burger King. As much as the 14,250 tons sound like, Mark said it will only supply the factory’s production for about 14 days.

A very satisfactory market show of 4-H livestock in competition for Junior Livestock Show trips was conducted at the Todd County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 13. As the county fair was held early in August, club members enrolled in market livestock projects felt a later show, such as was held Saturday, would be advisable for the purpose of selecting the representative animals from the county to compete at the Junior Show on October 6-9.

The St. Paul Junior Saints baseball club, who took a 6-3 drubbing from the locals a week ago Sunday, are seeking revenge. The locals are giving them an opportunity to do just that this coming Sunday, September 21 at the Browerville High School athletic field. The St. Paul team has promised to bring a much better, faster pitching staff and a better hitting ball club than they had two weeks ago. The locals will be using the same lineup they used against the Saints with Archie Mace on the mound and his brother, Fay, behind the bat which was considered the best battery in the OTW loop this year.
