September 25, 1997

Homecoming candidates— queen candidates: Jenny Biermair, daughter of Ken and Kristi Biermaier; Shirin Salber, daughter of Roger and Wanda Salber; Mariah Nolan-Rapatz, daughter of Greg Nolan and Marcia Rapatz; Katie Smith, daughter of Ralph and Ruth Smith; and Christianne Oven, daughter of Tom and Paula Oven. King candidates: D.J. Hoelscher, son of Allen and Linda Hoelscher; Randy Spindler, son of Jerry and Peggy Spindler; Adam Abrahamson, son of Arnold and Joan Abrahamson; Jody Bruder, son of Lynn and Julie Bruder; and Eric Johnson, son of Larry and Diane Johnson.

Four people, including one from Browerville, have been arrested for a strong-armed robbery at the Petro Plus Store in Melrose on September 15. The four people arrested were: Terry Sweazey of Little Falls, Darrin Sweazey of Browerville, Robin Moore and Shannon Shamp, both of Eagle Bend. Deputies had a search warrant for a home in Eagle Bend where they recovered money, weapons and other items involved in the robbery.


75 Years Ago

September 25, 1947

Another artificial breeding unit is going to begin operations in south Todd on October 1. The Browerville area is part of this new unit. The average production per cow in Minnesota is below 200 pounds of butterfat. The Minnesota Valley Breeder’s Association’s bull studs have sired daughters that average as high as 498 pounds.

Kotula’s Store will close the first part of next week as they will be remodeling. The last day of the closing out dry goods sale will be Sunday, September 27. If you want anything in the dry goods department be sure to come in this week. Mr. Kotula stated he will still have a large assortment of merchandise to choose from and the prices are right.
