Novelist LaVyrle Spencer said her last book is meant as a farewell to her readers from where she grew up in the 1950s. Some of the names mentioned in the book are real people, while others are not. But lots of people will have a good time looking for a mention of friends and family—and a good read, too. The novel is “Then Came Heaven”.

Jay Novak, Commissioner of the Trade and Economic Development Department, came to Browerville last week and met with local officials to talk about the new Dan’s Prize meat processing facility and its importance to the area. Novak said it is unusual for his department to use such a large portion of their annual six million dollar budget for one project. But, he said, they believe that Dan’s Prize can be a good employer who uses local products to promote local markets. This can be good for rural Minnesota.

The new storefront at the Brenny Brothers Store was unveiled a week ago Wednesday and adds greatly to the appearance of Main Street. The front is composed of black and blue construction glass.

Driver’s license examinations under the new law, which takes effect January 1, will be given at the courthouse in Long Prairie every Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. All new applicants for driver’s licenses must pass the eye test, the signs test and the law test before being allowed to take the road test. The applicant must furnish a car for the road test.
