Crop improvement research at the University of Minnesota has resulted in the development and testing of many new grain varieties of interest to Todd County farmers. R.W. Palmby returned recently from the annual extension conference at the University Farm. At the conference, it was revealed that two new oat varieties, Andrew and Zephyr, are being increased for future use by Minnesota farmers. Tests on another variety, Ajax, have been ongoing for three years. This variety has yielded as well as the recommended Clinton, Bonda and Mindo oats, but was not recommended because of its susceptibility to crown rust.
