September 17, 1998
On Thursday, September 8, faculty at Christ the King School patiently, but efficiently, began setting up the auditorium for the education drawing to benefit their children. There were 250 tickets sold at $100 a piece. They were sifted and turned several times in a Bingo drum. Kindergarten helpers from the audience drew the first of eight lucky blue cards, one $10,000 winner, one $500 and six $200. The lucky $10,000 winner was Mary Perez of Browerville.

The 25th annual Polish Softball Tournament was celebrated without a hitch. There was fair weather, fine food, and an over abundance of devoted fans. Twenty-five teams gathered at Motzko Field on Labor Day weekend, battling to be the best in the double elimination tournament taking place over three days. Big Eddie’s Boys took third place, Ma’s Boys finished second and Thomas brought home the trophy earning the rank and respect of first.

September 16, 1948
The local American Legion Post held its regular monthly meeting at the city hall last Wednesday evening. The following officers were elected for the coming year: Peter Kiselewski, commander; Joe Soule, vice commander and custodian; Ray Wodarz, finance office; and James Borgert, membership chairman.

Coach Ed Zins took the high-school football squad to Motley for the opening game of the 1948 season. The squad has slightly more experience than last year’s team since the following lettermen have returned: Ronald Wolter, Harold Gorman, William Kuntz, Wilfed Lucas, Charles Epperson, Larry Ostrowski and Edward Cech.
