A generous donation from the Lions bought new pagers for the fire department. Browerville Fire Pictured, Chief Bill Buhl received one of 25 new pagers from Lions Member Bob Heid. Heid explained that the department was offered a “very good deal” on the pagers. “These are smaller than the old ones. In the past years they had three different kinds of pagers, now everyone has the same type,” said Buhl.

Jim Salfer, Extension Educator from Stearns County, addressed the Farm Management Class on Thursday, December 10 at the Browerville Community Center. Through a program sponsored by the State Department of Agriculture, a series of farm management classes are being offered at several locations throughout Minnesota. Maxine Carlisle from Clarissa is the Todd County coordinator. There were about 20 local dairy farmers attending Thursday’s class. A tour of the recently revamped and expanded dairy operation of Mike Motl and Kim Harff was part of the day’s activities. Classes are offered on basic dairy nutrition, milker training, feeding systems and labor management.

December 23, 1948
Raymond John Lamusga, Machinist’s Mate, Second Class, USN, of Browerville, is serving aboard the destroyer USS Myles C. Fox, a unit of Task Force 38, which is now undergoing an intensive training period in the Western Pacific and the China Sea. These exercises are being conducted for the purpose of giving officers and men of the task force realistic training in all phases of Naval activities. In addition to the training aboard ship, personnel familiarize themselves with the ports and people of foreign lands.

Last Thursday, December 16, a carload of powdered milk left the Todd County Dairy Cooperative. Its load consisted of about 170,000 quarts of milk. The car will join others at Waterloo, Iowa, and then roll on to New Orleans where it will board a ship. The food train production will be delivered by New Year’s Day at points where the need is greatest.
