25 Years Ago

January 7, 1999

What used to be a dead end street at the east side of town is now an official city street, part of Railroad Avenue. The school’s industrial arts department constructed a home which is located on the street. If you are traveling down Railroad Avenue south past Second Avenue where the road use to dead end, you would be surprised to see the new road that would lead to an extension of Second Avenue.

Jeffery Oldenburg of Fawn Lake Township received a Conditional Use Permit for conducting snowmobile races for the months of December through March. The racing will be done on his existing motocross track and will not exceed five o’clock on weekends.


75 Years Ago

January 6, 1949

Below is listed the report of things accomplished by the Browerville Community Sportsmen’s Club in the year past: Distributed two crates of pheasants; fed pheasants last winter; distributed feed among farmers to plant for pheasant feed; held a crow hunt in which 200 crows were shot; 2000 eggs were distributed, 1000 gophers killed and 100 hawks; joined the central conservation association; 55,000 walleye pike put in different lakes; held group fox hunts last winter, and 33 fox were killed.

Frank L. King, well-known lawyer practicing at Long Prairie, announced that he has formed a partnership with C. Richard Fenske for the general practice of law. The new firm will be known as King & Fenske with offices upstairs in the former bank in Long Prairie. The new firm is now doing business at the above location.
