Dee and Hans Iten are pictured in the hardware store their family has owned for nearly 100 years. The original store carried hardware, appliances, furniture, hunting and fishing items and more. It was replaced in the late 1930s. Local labor included Ernest Kahlert who built the new store. Charlie and Joe Iten began the business as a harness shop in 1900.

Jodie Ostrowski, 12, daughter of Deb and Greg Ostrowski of Browervville, is the first girl from the area to ever take the state title in the KC’s Free Throw Contest. The annual contest is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Jodie completed 22 out of 25 free throws, competing against seven other girls, at the state meet held at the Wilmar Junior High School on March 14.

Todd County residents donated a total of $4398.68 for the 1948 CROP appeal. Minnesota brought its 1948 CROP appeal to a close recently with reports showing a total of $385,103 in cash and commodities, contributed by the rural citizens of the state to those needy overseas.

Members of the legislature, local officials and citizens alike here and in most other communities are studying with interest proposals urged by Governor Youngdahl. If approved by the legislators, they will make far-reaching changes in the licensing and regulation of on-sale liquor and 3.2 beer establishments.
