Laurent Vermeulen stopped at the Bill and Jolene Perish farm looking for a place to stay the night that had a fenced area for their mules. The Perishes’ steered him to the Betty and Denver Erickson place where he was welcomed for a home cooked meal and some good conversation. Only problem, Betty said, “He’s a vegetarian and I cooked steak.” Laurent travels 10-20 miles a day with two mules pulling a gypsy wagon. He is a native of Nazareth, Belgium

Tad and LuAnne Hoefs of rural Staples are the new owners of the Iten and Heid Hardware Store in Browerville. The couple will officially take over on Thursday, April 1. So stop in and give them a big welcome to the community.

March 31, 1949
The next Commercial Club meeting will be a Dutch lunch meeting at Drong’s North Star Coliseum Thursday night, March 31. Serving will begin at 6:30 p.m. and members will be served as they come. Wives and husbands of commercial club members are also invited so don’t forget to bring your better half along.

Minnesota voters will be given a chance to vote directly on their choice for presidential nominations in a presidential primary under terms of a bill which has just been introduced in the Minnesota Legislature under sponsorship of both Republican and Democratic Farmer Labor legislators.
