25 Years Ago

May 20, 1999

The Browerville Fire Department’s brand new, custom built, 1999 International pumper truck arrived in town Monday and the welcoming crew posed for a photo. They are: Red Hudalla, Bob Heid, Bill Buhl and Romaine Winkler. The truck cost $132,000 and is paid in full thanks to the replacement fund set up by the department some 15 years ago. The new truck replaced a 1969 Dodge.

Toni Jesinoski, a 1989 Browerville High School graduate, was inducted into Browerville’s Athletic Hall of Fame, on Wednesday, May 12. Averaging 22 career points per game her entire high school basketball career, Toni was the second Tiger to join the 1000 point club. As a three year starter, she was instrumental in leading the Tigers to the Prairie Conference Championship in 1988, and a District 22 Championship and Region 6 finals appearance in 1989, and an All Conference performance in 1987, 1988 and 1989. She was an excellent ball handler and always a threat to score from the point line or off of the dribble.


75 Years Ago

May 19, 1949

The May meeting of the Eager Beavers 4-H club was held at the Chas. Drayna home. The meeting was called to order by the president, roll call was answered by 13 members, naming a spring flower. Two members were selected to go to Morris from June 2-4. Dues will be collected to raise money. An ice cream social will be held at the Farm Bureau picnic, no plan has yet been made. Doris Drayna gave a demonstration on “Making a Dress Placket.” Lunch was served by Mrs. Drayna. —Ardella Verhey, reporter.

The Browerville Village Council has passed amendments to the village ordinances in regard to the hour in which intoxicating as well as non-intoxicating beverages are to be sold.
