25 Years Ago

July 22, 1999

Corey Heid of Browerville has been hired to fill the full-time deputy sheriff’s position vacated by retiring Robert Mason. Sheriff David Kircher said he posted the position within his department and received six applications, all from part-time deputies. Kircher said he recommended hiring Heid because of his four years with the department.

The Todd County Auditor/Treasurer’s office is open for business. The staff moved into its new location in the recently completed court building in early July. Pictured are Kathryn Gresser, Deb Ostrowski, Peggy Anderson, Sandi Sneed, Sue Prill and Millie Marcyes.


75 Years Ago

July 21, 1949

The past week, Todd County’s commissioners announced the 1949 levy has been set at $544,575.10, a substantial increase over last year and the biggest levy in the county’s history. However, the commissioners at the same time declared that the increases were made necessary by increased costs and bylaws passed by the legislature.

While on a vacation trip to the North Shore Drive this past week, Robert E. Lee landed a huge 22-pound lake trout, which is about the largest fish your editor has ever seen. Mr. Lee was accompanied by Mrs. Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Kotula and Mr. and Mrs. Roman Iten.
